Super support group: The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association's Northwest Wisconsin Support Group was named the "Overall Outstanding Free Standing Support Group for 1995" at the association's ninth annual Volunteer Leadership Conference in Bethesda, Md.
Under the direction of Sally Krohn and founder Lew Neff, the group aims to identify and reach out to ALS patients in the area. The group provides education and awareness as well as an augmentative communication equipment program so vital to ALS patients. Its annual walk/wheelathon supports the group and national ALS research.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease. There is no known cause for the disease, nor is there a cure.
